"The metal without weaknesses, choose platinum"!

Do you want a piece of jewelry that retains its beautiful color, does not damage so quickly, and matches beautifully with a diamond?
Of all precious metals, this naturally silver-white precious metal is the most durable.

    Advantages and disadvantages of platinum
It is an honor for Goudsmid Margriet to work with this beautiful material. Because a polished platinum ring will retain its brilliant shine for a long time, this goldsmith's masterpiece will remain an eye-catcher for years to come. Because platinum is such a hard precious metal, it takes the goldsmith a little more time to process this material in a piece of jewelry. As a result, the delivery time for platinum jewelry is slightly longer than for gold or silver jewelry. This is more than worth it in the end. Of all precious metals, platinum requires the least maintenance afterward, is not very sensitive to scratches and dents, and will retain its beautiful white shine for a long time.

In addition, platinum is hypoallergenic, which means that the risk of allergic reactions while wearing platinum jewelry is very small. Platinum is also called “the metal without weaknesses”. Reasons for this are, for example, that platinum has high corrosion resistance. This means that air will not affect platinum. In addition, it will not be able to rust due to hydrochloric acid, halogens, and cyanides.

The price of platinum jewelry is higher than silver or gold jewelry. This is partly due to the scarcity of this precious metal. There are very few places in the world where platinum is mined. The five largest suppliers of platinum are: South Africa, Russia, Canada, Zimbabwe and the United States. It is often even the case that platinum is not specifically sought, but that this appears during the extraction of nickel.

    Platinum alloy

Platinum is used almost in its purest form in jewelry. The platinum content in an alloy must be at least 95% to be sold as platinum. The remaining 5% may consist of Iridium, Palladium, Rhodium, Copper, Titanium, or Cobalt. Our platinum is alloyed with cobalt. At Margriet Jewels we use 950PT. Below are the hallmarks that are stamped in our platinum jewelry at the Warranty. Of course, the maker's mark of Goldsmith Margriet (Margriet Burger-Schouten) also appears in all jewelry.

    Platinum vs Gold

Platinum is five times rarer and purer than gold. Platinum itself has a natural white color.
Platinum is rarer and therefore more precious than gold. Only 160 tons of platinum are mined annually. Compared to the 1,500 tons of gold that is mined every year, this is of course very little. The price of precious metals is also determined by weight. Platinum weighs more than gold, which is why this precious metal is also more expensive.
Of course, this does not mean that (white) gold is not a beautiful precious metal. Both precious metals have advantages and disadvantages, Margriet Jewels is happy to help you make the right choice. Click here to read more about the maintenance of platinum jewelry.
